Just in time for Memorial Day. The old Ideal Swimming Pool is open for business. And as always - Please no peeing in the pool!

After today's heat wave I recall many fond memories of this pool, although by that time it was called Fun City. I believe it's the largest public pool I've ever seen. My first memory is not the greatest however. I stepped off the ledge that ran the length of the pool on the side opposite the buildings, and sunk to the bottom. I believe I was only 7 or 8 and learned to swim very quickly. My older sister had no idea I would do something so dumb and was not near me at the time. I managed to get myself out of danger and it hasn't stopped me from enjoying the water. Too bad J-town doesn't have anything like it now.

David - I spent many a summer day at Fun City. Some days we actually walked from Kerville. I have mileaged it as about 4 miles. Whew.. I remember swimming 5 lengths of the pool one time, the pool was hugh but I was a very strong swimmer in those days...
