Vigilant Fire Company

Vigilant Fire Company - Founded 1854 - Kernville - was the Fire Department there before Kernville joined the city. I don't know where exactly this picture was taken. I do know that when the department closed up - the building was made into a clubhouse. So this might be the building. But I also think the building looks like it could belong to part of Island Park (where St. Andrews is now).

I remember when the Vigilante Fire Dept/Social club burned down in the 70's. It in the 200 block of Dibert St and they built the small 1 story social club in its place. Don't know if it's still there or not.

The building is still there, but no longer a club. A dentist office is in the building and has been since the 80's.

David - Don't know if this is the same building, however I lived at 209 Dibert St growing up and the Vigilant at that time had hugh glass windows on the front of the building. We played rubberball on the Dibert St School playground across the street from the Vigilant and I remember a great number of balls ringing off those glass windows. NEVER DID WE BREAK ONE...thank goodness for that...
