Sgt. Michael Strank - Franklin

On this Labor Day Weekend - as with every holiday - I like to Honor those that came before us and Served our Country in the fight for freedom. This very famous photograph needs no introduction.
Sgt. Michael Strank who grew up in Franklin and gave his life for the country he loved.
Reader Bill Alt who grew up in Franklin sent in the following pictures. He says: I am attaching several photos of Sergeant Michael Strank, who was one of the men who raised the American flag on Iwo Jima, and was later killed before he could return home to Johnstown.

There are pictures of the statue that stands in front of the Borough Building in Franklin.  There are a few other pictures attached that are of Sgt. Michael Strank, The exterior of the Franklin Boro. Municipal Building, and of the Iwo Jima Monument.
I was attending elementary school in Franklin when the Iwo Jima statue at Arlington National Cemetery was dedicated in Washington, DC.  I remember how proud all of us in my class felt to be Americans and to be from the same home town as Sgt. Michael Strank.
