Conemaugh Store

Reader Steve Chabra sent in this picture of a store in Conemaugh at the corner of 5th and Main Street. His mother is not sure if her grandmother Julia Babyak owned the store in the 1930's or just worked in it. They add that the store was called Pop's in the 1960's. If any of you readers know anything more about this - please feel free to let me know.

Yes. This is the corner of 4th street. My Grandparents lived 2 doors down from Pops. Was in the store many times as a kid in the 40's. My Mother was in the store on Dec 6, 1941. That's where she heard about Japan bombing Pearl Harbor. She told the story many times.

I don't think this is Pop's. It is the one on 5th and Main. The one on 4th street was called Pop's. No one seems to remember the name of the store on 5th and Main.

The store at 4th & Main was called Popps or Popp's. It was owned by the Popp family. John Popp may still be alive -- I last saw him about 3 or 4 years ago. My memory is that the photo is the store at 5th & Main.
