Smooch Time in Morrellville - 1940's

My grandparents - John and Carmela (Vaccaro) Cacicia having a little fun in the backyard - K Street - Morrellville sometime in the 1940's.

Another picture from Rob Musson - Emmerling Bohemian Beer - Johnstown, Pa.

Emmerling - Das Schmeckt Gut

Reader Rob Musson sent me a treasure trove of old Johnstown area beer ads - along with a wealth of information on the brewing history of the area that I will be posting in the next couple of weeks. For more on Emmerling from this site CLICK HERE.

First Communion - St. Stephens - 1930's

This is my Aunt Kathleen (Hanzel) Vilkofsky - the youngest of all the Hanzel girls - making her First Holy Communion at St. Stephen's Church in the late 1930's. She was one of those pleasant kind of people if you know what I mean - you liked being around her - alot of members of my family are like that - we are all funny people - some may say - funny in the head - but we don't care. If you're around us during a family get together - you will have a good time and you will eat like a pig - because that's the kind of people we are.

Happy Birthday - 1960's

Happy Birthday wishes go to my sister Kelly (Cacicia) Edwards - she is the one in middle balling about something I must have done - you can tell by the look on her face - she still looks at me that way or maybe she's mad we're wearing the same color top! It couldn't have been our brother Bob - since he is sitting there looking like a little angel. We are on the back stoop at our great-grandmothers house on Stackhouse Street - the Hanzel Homestead - where we spent many happy holidays.

A Night at the Opera - 1951

Reader Dawn R. mardis sent in this picture - she writes: "Please post this photo of my Parents and brother and sister. My parents are Alfred C. Wesner & Nellie M. (Hildebrand) Wesner, my sister is Diane L. Wesner and my Brother is Richard A.(Dick) Wesner. This was taken in 1951 when my parents were going to the Opera in Johnstown. My father was the Vice President and my mother headed the Women's Auxiliary and both my brother and sister were on the Junior Board of Directors of the Johnstown Opera Company. My mother said I was in the picture too, you just can't see me. She is hiding me with her clutch bag. I'm the "bump" in her tummy! Thanks!"

Media Ad from 'Broadcasting Magazine' - 1963

Vibra-Finger Ad

I found this ad in one of my old TV Guides that I am scanning in to post. Vibra-Finger - my guess and I think it's a good one - is that it was used to stimulate something other than gum tissue.

Here you go kid - 1977 Flood

This picture makes me cringe - only flood survivors would know why. That AIN'T no Pepsi that dad is passing off to his son - it's the god awful - luke warm - tastes like CRAP - tonic like water Pepsi used before they added the actual pepsi flavor. But it was very nice of Pepsi to donate hundreds of thousands of cases of it - free for the taking. Even though we knew it didn't contain pop - there was always that hope that just one case might and that one would be ours.

West End "Good Luck Parade" Update

Posted this picture last year of the World War Two - "Good Luck" Parade at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Barron Avenue in Morrellville. Reader Darcie ran across this picture today and writes the following: "The store with the flag is Barna's. My grandfather/mother, John and Mary Barna owned it until the 60's and then my Aunt Beanie Vrabel and Mother Kay Fiore/Legarski bought it and ran it until the late 60's. My Uncle John Barna is on the porch of the store in the white coat (he was a butcher) and I see my Mother out in front with the blond tuft of hair in a head scarf! She was 19 in this photo! What great memories this has brought back! Thanks!!! BTW, the parade is going up Barron."
