Another great shot from reader Joanne McKinney she says: My father, Phil Swanger, worked at C&BL RR (Conemaugh & BlackLick). To commemorate the Bicentennial in 1976, they painted a locomotive red, white and blue. This is a picture of that locomotive. It's a little faded from age, but folks may remember seeing it sitting outside the shop on display back in 1976!
My question is where did the Blacklick come from did this RR ever run the Blacklick valley? The Conemaugh makes perfect sense But The Penn Central and the Cambria and Indiana RR a sister Bethlehem short line ran up the Blacklick valley!
ReplyDeleteMy late husband, Charley Akester, was a yardmaster back then. We moved to Baltimore and he worked on the Baltimore Patapso River RR for a while.
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather was a train-spotter, for Conemaugh & Black Lick Railroad Company. He would weigh the trains as they came through. Warren Burnheimer.
