Another one of those beautiful old picture postcards and a feast for the eyes! Central Park on the right and all the stores that used to line Main Street.
David - I recently spent about 8 hours in the lib on a visit to town, looking for any photos such as this and really didn't find anything that I was looking for, which was J-town in the 60's as I remembered it as a teen. This is just what I was looking for among many others on this site. My biggest disappointment is that I can't copy them to my computer, but thank you for giving me a look back into my youth.
I was born at Lee Hospital in 1951 and grew up in Johnstown. I left with my family in 1977 after the flood. I was 26 years old then. I lived right downtown on Lincoln Street so these were my stomping grounds as a youth. I want to thank you so very much for sharing all of these photos with us on your site. I have only had an opportunity to return home once since I moved and that was for Thanksgiving in 1989. So much of the wonderful places I remember from my childhood are now gone. I wish I had been able to share some of those places with my two sons who were both born in Johnstown, but were only 3 years and 31/2 months old when we moved.
Does anyone have any photos of the inside of St. John Gaulbert Co-Cathedral Catholic Church on Clinton Street??? Please send them in if you do. I would love to see the inside of my church once again. Thank You!
David - Okay, dud... don't know why I was trying to use the copy feature and not the save as feature to transport some of my favorite photos here. I am so happy that I can now have a copy of those that remind me so much of my youth. Thank you Lisa for doing all this!

ReplyDeleteAlmost looks like early morning with just a touch of fog in the distance. Priceless photo.
