This is my Great Grandfather, U. Ed Swartzsentruver, he passed in 1972. I remember sitting with him on his porch on Grant Street in South Fork reminiscing about his experiences at the breast of the dam when it gave way. He had a very interesting life after the '89' flood. Working in the mines from an early age, he eventually met and assisted J.L. Lewis organized the miners in Western Pennsylvania. He eventually rose to the position of District 2 Secretary in the United Mine Workers of America. In addition, David McCullough interviewed and mentioned him in his successful 'The Johnstown Flood' novel.
