For you out of town readers - the wonderful West End Improvement Group have done a GREAT job with making the site of the former Bucknell Hotel (Bucky's) at the corner of Fairfield and D - a thing of beauty indeed!
But this is what they started with. All the before shots are courtesy of Rose Howarth from the West End Improvement Group.
The group also has more of these flower boxes scattered through out the West End. There isn't a weekend that goes by where I don't see either Marie Mock or Rose Howarth along with other members of their group - out and about in the West End - watering, pulling weeds, working on the flowers or cutting the grass coming in or out of the West End.

This is how the ground looked after the Bucknell was torn down.

This is the beauty of it now.
These are the trees that have now taken root in the West End.

The children of Stanley and Sophie Klotz honoring their parents who called the West End home for many years.
Rose says - "This is a step into the Bucknell from the Fairfield Avenue side. It was the only thing that was left after they tore the building down. I felt it would be an important artifact to have. When Penn Dot took some of that corner to soften and widen the intersection, I knew they would be excavating the sidewalks. I asked them if they would save that step for us. It didn't exactly work out the way I asked them to do it, but in the long run....here is the step!"
And this is how it looks now.

Looking back the other direction - Roseland on the right and the old B Shoppe in the middle. Sorry to say - that they old candy store building has a date with the wrecking ball.
Kudos to the West End Improvement Group for their wonderful work & dedication and to you for covering it in your blog!
