Freedom Gas

Freedom Gas Station - Downtown Johnstown - First National Bank has an office there now. The opposite corner is where the library is now.

Signs of the Times

Another VJ repeat because I like this picture: This is the old Power Gas and & Oil Station at the corner of Broad Street and Fairfield Avenue. This building and another gas station that used to occupy the site are long gone. Present day Giant Eagle (Dirty Bird) is located where you can just see the top of the roof behind the station.

Got Gas

Another repeat today. They don't build them like this anymore. Amoco-Gas at the end of the Napoleon Street Bridge. Union Cemetery would be directly behind the photographer and Joe Johns is off camera to the left. You can also see the Franklin Street Bridge off in the distance.

Bedford Street Snow

Rick Callihan sent in this shot from the 1950's - Bedford Street - just outside Ann's Place - you can just barely see the old Sinclair Station in the background.

Electric Avenue

 

Galliker's Fleet of Electric Trucks. The Napoleon Street bridge is off to the right. This isn't the first time I have posted pictures of electric vehicles. If they could do it in 1930 - what is the big deal now - also why didn't they stick with it - I know the price of gas was dirt cheap for decades - but still - I just don't get it.

Got Gas

Benscreek Service Station - Old Somerset Pike - I believe that parts of that are still standing along with the house on the right hand side.

Stonycreek & Napoleon

 

Great close up view of the intersection of Stonycreek and Napoleon Streets. Union Park - the present site of the War Memorial is to the right of the Amoco Gas Station. You can just barely see a bit of the Napoleon Street Bridge - Johnstown High would be across the river to the left.

Here is a slightly better view. Two things are still the same there. A gas station is still there and way back on the left - almost between the double poles - that small natural gas building is still there. Click on it to enlarge.

Where is this?

Franklin & Washington

Corner of Franklin and Washington - there is so much going on here - that you don't know where to look first - from Sherer's One Stop Service to all the businesses that used to line Washington Street.

Lee Hospital - Update

Another one of those pictures where you don't know where to look first. Starting on the lower right - the old Esso Gas Station (Glosser Library is there now), Fort Stanwix Hotel and the State Theatre. Directly behind the gas pumps in the old YMCA building and so much more.
