These Pits Have No Pendulum...
The Clay Banks - Oakhurst - 1977. The most magical place to play growing up - from climbing up the sides to playing on the large cranes. In the 60's we lived in the Oakhurst Homes for a time and we'd all go over and spend the afternoon playing there. My mother would pack up a lunch and we'd make a day of it.

Oakhurst Playground

Kathy (Voytko) Walko sent in these two old gems of Oakhurst Playground - either from the late 40's or early 50's. Her dad - Dan Voytko is on the lower left on both pictures. That's Brush Avenue with Harold Avenue behind the guys. If you know who the others might be - please let us know!
Here her dad is also on the lower left with Brush Avenue in the background - as to the others - she didn't know - so if you would happen to know who these people are - please let us know.

The West End of Johnstown
Love this shot of the West End of Johnstown looking towards the Conemaugh Gap. Just wish it was a bit clearer - I tried to enlarge it - but it came out even softer. To help you out - I marked off the Coopersdale Bridge on the right and the old Harris-Boyer Bakery on the left. Plus just a wonderful look at the mountains that I spend a great deal of time exploring.

Oakhurst - 1970

This great shot of Oakhurst - 1970 was sent in by reader David DePra. He shot this from his attic in Oakhurst. It shows the view looking down the valley towards Cambria City. The closest street in the picture is Dorothy Avenue and on the right is the old Sheridan School which had been boarded up by that time.

Oakhurst Claypit - 1960's
The Oakhurst Claypits - the best place I ever played at! I posted this well over a year ago - but re-posted it today as per a conversation I have been having over at Jackson Township Historical Records on growing up in Oakhurst.
In the 1960's - my mother Gail (Patsy Lenz) Cacicia would pack up a picnic lunch for all of us and we'd all go over to play and climb all the walls. Basically me and my brother Bob would do all the climbing and running around - my sister Kelly (Cacicia) Edwards was still too small and all she did was cry when we were there anyway CLICK HERE to see a picture of the claypit in living color. Going there was a real treat - almost magical to me - daydreaming of all the adventures I used to think up while there. My head is still in the clouds and I still spend a great deal of time daydreaming...if you ask me there's nothing wrong with that.

Oakhurst Claypits
Happy Birthday to my little sister Kelly (Cacicia) Edwards. This is her - very unhappy about who knows what - at the Oakhurst Claypits last seen HERE from around 1968. It was always an adventure when we'd head over to the claypits...
Her response to this picture will probably be to say that she is holding her head because I threw a rock at her...lol!

Oakhurst Claypits
When I was little playing here was simply magical to me. From climbing the clay banks to playing on the cranes.
That's my brother and me around 1967 or '68.
