Jaywalkers - Main and Franklin Streets - who knew they were such a source of trouble! Writing up this post - I am just wondering how many of you younger readers even know what jaywalking means. It's one of those words that isn't used much anymore - along with cloakroom, lavatory, davenport and even terms like street car and trolley. Now I will try to use all the words in a paragraph: I woke up on the davenport and realized I was going to be late for school. So I ran for the street car, but tripped over the trolley tracks. By the time I got to class, I had to wash up in the cloakroom and use the lavatory before sitting down at my desk.
Until the day my grandmother died - she always called a couch (a davenport). If you can think of more unused words - please feel free to send them.
