The Opera House - 1894

The old Johnstown Opera House - 1894. The entrance to the opera house (later Glossers was built on the site) was on the Locust Street side, although there was also a smaller entrance on Franklin Street. Besides small stores along the Franklin Street side - at one time the Post Office was also located in the building for a time.

Air Mail Special

Pat Thomas  sent in the information for today's really cool post on Special Deliveries. The gentleman on the left is her father Richard Crowley and the young boy on the right is J. Martin Wiestling.
Special Delivery - Air Mail Service reached the acme of perfection here today. Richard Crowley, right, Special Delivery Messenger from the Johnstown Post Office, is shown completing delivery of a cake to J. Martin Wiestling, freshman at Westmont-Upper Yoder High School. Beautifully decorated with lilies of the valley and rosebuds, the cake was mailed yesterday from Alexandria, La., by the boy's mother, Mrs. Richard Wiestling, who is visiting relatives there.
Pat adds that her father also at one time - belonged to the Postal Service Motorcycle Corps and really enjoyed that aspect of the job.

Where is this?

If you guessed the current location of the Post Office then you were correct. Pretty cool look at once what used to be there - never quite saw a sidewalk on the right hand side that round before...
