Garbage Collection - 1925 Style
Vintage Repeat - Another clipping from the Erma Rose Gloor scrapbook - this time it's Johnstown and garbage - January 1925. I know why she cut this out - my grandfather Walter Lenz (her Uncle) was a garbage man - and my mother always said he used to bring such interesting treasures home - for all I know - he might actually be one of the guys on the picture. I know some of his vast collection must have been saved from the scrap heap while he was on the job and I'm thankful for that. Trouble is - my grandmother was the type that threw everything away - so not all of his collection survived. I did the best I could with this clipping - but as you can see - it's still a bit messed up.

Grime Free Neighborhoods - 1930's
Summer Repeat - three street cleaners sitting in front of Cochran Junior High School on Central Avenue in the 1930's. They look just like tanks to me. But considering there were still quite a few horse drawn wagons parading around, I guess you would want to be in something like this.
I thought our street cleaner was old - it just goes to show - not much has really changed when it comes to keeping all of us safe from grime.
