Luna Park Boat Dock

Another rare shot of Luna Park (Roxbury) - this time is from the other side of the park - you are looking at the boat dock.

Southern Cambria Streetcar

Old Southern Cambria Streetcar - taken in Conemaugh in the early 1920's. The old Southern traveled from downtown (near the present Post Office Bldg) through Conemaugh Borough and over a bridge at the upper end of Gautier, then to Woodvale Heights on to Conemaugh. It passed a large picnic ground on it's way to Ebensburg.
The railway was abandoned around 1928 or so.

Artists in Motion - 1970's

Dedication - Vision '76, the Spring Arts Festival of the Johnstown Area Arts Council, was dedicated to Van Clemenson, a member of the council's executive committee who died in mid-February. Clemenson is seen here in a self-portrait displayed "in memoriam" at the three-day event.

Artist in Motion - 1970's

The display of the Allied Artists of Johnstown included works in such media as oil painting, watercolor, drawing, copper enameling, macramé and stained glass. Shown with a sample of the latter is Everett Michaels, a Johnstown resident who served as chairman for the booth done by David Blackford, the work bore a $300 price tag.

St. Francis Retreat - 1941

Reader Mike Mertle sent in this old gem - First Annual Retreat - St. Francis College - 1941.
His grandfather William Kesslak is the first seated person on the left, in the second row from the bottom.
He says he thinks he attended because his son Michael was going there and graduated in 1941.
He adds he doesn't recognize anyone else in the picture. Thought maybe some people on the website might recognize a relative or two.

Around Town - Stony Creek Bridge - 1862

Around Johnstown - 1862: The frame of the old span of the Stony Creek Bridge, after being stripped of all superfluous weight, was jackscrewed up to a level with the new span - some twenty-four inches on Tuesday. The work of repairing it to correspond with the new span is being prosecuted with energy.
