Thank you Koch's!

Koch's was first on the right hand side behind the stop sign before moving across the street a few years back.

I want to take time out today to just say a simple - thank you - to the folks at Koch's for their decades of service to the West End. From the BEST ham salad in Johnstown, to the other wonderful delicacies they sold thru out the years. We got one last order of ham salad today.

As a kid in the 70's - it was a big deal to be able to ride our bikes that far from my house. We'd park outside the front door - knowing nobody would steal them and go in and get the best Birch Beer I have ever tasted to this day. Ice cold. I can not remember the brand name - but they were in brown, 12oz bottles and we'd get them - go outside and sit on their front step - pretending that we were drinking real beer....lol. When we were done - we would go back in and get the usual nickle you got for empties and buy some penny candy with that.

To the owner - I wish you luck in your next venture. Thank you for continuing the legacy as long as you could - given your circumstances. I know it hasn't been easy for you the last couple of years. But you have to do what's best for yourself sometimes.

PS - To the owner Renee if you see this - you might remember me - because I was the one that used to walk past your house everyday going up the mountain. If you and your husband were out - we'd always talk for a couple of minutes before I would go on my way.
