I've seen just about all the pictures ever taken of the 1889 Flood - and I have to say I've never seen this one. A friend of mine gave me a box of old photo's - and this is one of them. There are more images of the flood that I am still going thru along with shots of Johnstown in the 1910's. Judging from the other stuff in the box - I think it once belonged to a flood survivor.

Luna Park Playground Picnic - Children's Folk Dancing Group - Attendance 17,000 people with 8,000 children. What's neat about this picture is that there must have been two photographers that day. Note the guy - in front of the people on the fence. He is taking pictures - his tripod is on the upper right hand side. This photograph was taken August 15, 1912 - (Roxbury Park).
Luna Park - Pushmobile Races - (Roxbury Park)

Luna Park Day - August 15, 1912 (Roxbury Park)
As Mayor of Vintage Johnstown. I declare today - Luna Park Day. Why, you may ask? Because every picture I will be posting today was taken on this date 99 years ago.
Luna Park Children's Playground Picnic - Watermelon Treat Counter - (Roxbury Park). Over 8,000 kids - plus 17,000 total attendance enjoyed a day of fun, games, rides and food - August 15, 1912. It was probably the only good time some of these kids would ever have and I wish I had a name to go with all of the faces. There is just so much to see here - it's a pure feast for the eyes. And one of my top 10 favorite images I have ever posted on this site. To see a better shot of some of the attractions in this picture CLICK HERE.
