I recall from my childhood in the late 1940s that the city attached Neon designs to the utility poles in the downtown as Christmas decorations. The designs were bells, candles, and trees. In this photo of Main St. one of the Neon candles can be easily seen on a pole immediately to the right of the Hotel Royal sign on the left side of the picture. Farther along the street a faint Christmas tree design can also be seen.
These Neon decorations can be seen lining both sides of Franklin Street in a stunning night-time photograph published on this blog back on April 21, 2012 which was titled Downtown Darkness. Check it out.
