The Circus at Roxbury Park - 1923
Roxbury Park - Circus Day - June 1923. What is interesting about this picture is that this was taken only a short time after Luna Park closed up. This clipping is from a collection of my cousin - Erma Rose Gloor from Nanty Glo - who died a few years back. I have a lot of material she saved - and it was passed down to me - thank goodness. I also now have a partner in crime helping me scan more things in. So stay tuned. Double click on picture to enlarge.
First Chestnut Street School - Cambria City
Most of you reading this probably have no idea that there were actually two Chestnut Street Schools. This is the first built only 5 years after the 1889 Flood along Chestnut Street in Cambria City. Reader Tony says "This building was not torn down in 1922. I attended this "old" Chestnut Street School in 1939. It held classes for first and second graders while the "newer red brick" (located behind it)school held classes for the third through sixth graders!"
Merchant Hotel - Inside
Nice inside shot of the old Merchant Hotel in downtown Johnstown last seen HERE.
Westmont Airport - 1929
Another fine and interesting photo - courtesy of the Russell Heffley book. I'm sure it didn't you too long to figure out exactly where this is....the bi-plane is on the grounds of what is now the area around Sunnehanna Country Club - you can just barely see the old clubhouse in the distance.
Also starting today - I added another feed feature - on the upper right hand side of the site - there is a "follow by email" box - just pop your address in there - you can then also see every new post in your inbox automatically.
