Mercy Hospital - 1950's

Mercy Hospital - 1950's

Vigilant Fire Company

Vigilant Fire Company - Founded 1854 - Kernville - was the Fire Department there before Kernville joined the city. I don't know where exactly this picture was taken. I do know that when the department closed up - the building was made into a clubhouse. So this might be the building. But I also think the building looks like it could belong to part of Island Park (where St. Andrews is now).

Going for a Ride - 1913

Reader Steve Dixon sent in this shot of his great-grandfather John Ludwig and his family on an outing near Johnstown is his new car, which Steve believes is a 1913-14 Knox Model 44.

JHS Freshman Team - 1911

Reader Steve Dixon sent in this shot - Johnstown High School - Freshman Team - 1911-12. His grandfather is Ludwig Conrad Tross on the bottom right. He also played football for the Penn Quakers (U. of Penn.) which played in the 1917 Rose Bowl, losing to the then Oregon Web Feet (now Ducks).
What I really find interesting is that they all seem to be wearing different shoes - they look like boxing shoes to me - in an age before athletic shoes really had their start. One more point - being that they are freshmen - 1915 is the year that they would graduate from JHS.

Johnstown WAVE

Miss Bernice Andrews - Navy Wave - daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Andrews of 157 A Street - Morrellville. Her brother John is a Private in the Army. Miss Andrews was a pianist for the Barron Avenue United Brethren Church at the intersection of Barron and D Street - last seen HERE.

Trolley Time

Trolley Time - Chandler Avenue - Morrellville. You can just barely see Fairfield Avenue and Marigolds at the far end of the street.

Unknown Italian Store - Prospect

Unknown Italian Grocery in Prospect. I know one thing for sure - it's not the one owned by my Sunseri cousins who also had a store in Prospect. I would say this dates to the early teens.
