1889 Flood
Another one of those 1889 Flood photographs I found in a shoebox full of other old pictures.

This photograph is very special to me because it shows the John Thomas store and the home and photography studio of my great-grandfather Edward A. Zimmerman was across the street from John Thomas' store. When the flood waters struck E. A. Zimmerman and his children escaped through the trap door in the roof and were carried across the street on the roof where John Thomas helped them into the 3rd floor of his building, so saving their lives.
Carolyn - So you're a Zimmerman - that's really neat - besides the fact that they survived the Flood as did my grandfather's family. I've often thought there should be a modern group of Flood Survivor Families - sort of like the DAR - that sort of thing.
One more thing - please feel free to sent and old photographs you may have - since your family was such a leader in the field of photography - Lisa
