Love this shot of the Cambria Theatre on Main Street. You can see that 'Orchids and Ermine' is playing - starring Miss Colleen Moore - she is not really one of my favorites - the films I have seen her in - she just doesn't have any charisma to me - but then again - with so few surviving films - I could be misjudging her and TCM doesn't play her much anyway. For you trivia buffs out there - this picture was the film debut of Mickey Rooney and for a Blair County connection - Hedda Hopper is also in the film - she grew up in Hollidaysburg and is buried in Altoona.
Now back to the photograph on hand - the movie was released nationwide in March of 1927. But judging from the picture and the leaves on the trees and knowing about the State Censorship Board (Pennsylvania was very strict and would have had to make cuts) - I'd say this was late April or sometime in May. Oh and one more thing - this picture was snapped at 9:40 am.

Do you have any photographs of any "Miss Johnstown" 's from the 1920's? They went on to compete for Miss America in Atlantic City. '22 Velma Ziegler (she went on to Broadway in "Kid Boots" and then married French petroleum executive Boris Aslan Finaly) '23 Betty Grening (she was originally from Illinois and married in 1920 and competed as a married woman, divorced him & left for England)'24 Adeline Richardson Yeckley (she entered under her maiden name but was disqualified when Atlantic City made the rule of no married women.) '24 Leona von Alt (she replaced Adeline. Do not know if there was a second contest or if Leona had placed second, but the contest was held at Ideal Park on August 19, 1924. Leona was third place in the evening gown contest in Atlantic City. She had a huge homecoming part of which was held at the Cambria Theater.) Am not sure who sponsored the contests but it probably was the Tribune. Would love to see some pictures of our Miss Johnstowns
