Very nice vintage bottle label sent in by reader Chuck Wago. Magic Seal Liniment and I imagine since it's 65% alcohol - after a couple of doses of this stuff - I would think it would probably knock you on your ass...much like a sledgehammer to the head. And you got to love the main selling point "This preparation does not leave the bowels weak and confined, but acts as a warm stimulant or tonic"...

I have a bottle of Horner's Magic Seal passed down from my great aunt. Not sure how old it is and no one is brave enough to try it. Ha
I'm so happy to find this link. My family always had several bottles of Magic Seal, and I remember taking it with warm water and sugar. My grandmother's neighbor made Magic Seal in her kitchen and sold it to the local pharmacist in Somerset.
Magic seal always worked great for cutting teeth. I bought my niece a bottle when her oldest was born, now the bottle is on its 5th baby. I would love to purchase another bottle if anyone has one laying around. marilynbaker74@mn.com please contact me.
I always told my husband about taken get Magic Seal, this is gold. It was the worse tasting and worse smelling stuff. Smelled like ether. Nasty nasty stuff. We used to buy it from old Mrs Rosean at the little store on Solomon St.
I recall my grandmother giving me Magic Seal mixed with tea for stomach problems. As I remember, it didn't taste all that bad, perhaps because the alternative was an enema. If anyone has a bottle, I would be curious to know if there is any additional listing of ingredients besides alcohol, perhaps on the back. My guess is the "Seal" part of the name referred to Solomon's Seal. If anyone has more information on this medicine, I'd like to see it posted and/or send me an e-mail at hehemphi@earthlink.net.

I just happen to come across a bottle of Magic Seal in my mom's medicine cabinet. I remember her giving it to me as a child for upset stomachs. The ingredients are listed as 43% alcohol, 4% ether, 4% chloroform capsicum, peppermint oil, camphor and anise oil. Wow. Who knew!
I remember my grandmother gave this to me as a child for stomach aches and it really worked its magic!
I have a bottle of Bowman Magic Seal. JC Menhorn RD4 Johnstown,Pa. Bottom of bottle is marked 1902 with what appears to be a fancy 3 and 2 stars. Not much left in it but the bottle,labels and cap are excellent.
