Local Copperhead Sentiments. MODERN NOTE - There is a lot more of this kind of feeling and thought about the war than people realize in our modern age. It wasn't all so cut and dry as they portray it now. From local letters home - especially after Fredericksburg - which hit our local troops hard. Lots of dead and wounded. Add to that all the problems on the National Front...how people really felt was beginning to be talked about more and more openly in our local newspapers. At least in the two papers I am using. Some people were really beginning to be sick and tired and just wanted the war to end.
