I think this might be a picture of the old limestone quarries that were located in the Conemaugh Gorge along rt. 403. There was a very active mining of the Loyalhanna Limestone,.along rt 403 today you can still see ruins of the old concrete loading tipple just past the Johnstown sewage treatment plant.
