Ron, they never smiled because of the exposure time it took to take the actual photo. Most time - they even had there heads in a type of rest you couldn't see - because it simply took that long. Next time you see an old photo where a person looks like a blur - that's because they moved before the exposure was done - Lisa

Oh my, thanks for informing me. I never knew that. I used to look at my grandma's old photos and wonder why nobody ever smiled. Makes total sense now.
