This photo was sent in by reader Harry A. Dishong.
The studio photo is of a baseball team from the Prospect section of Johnstown, taken in 1891.
My Grandfather, Harry Webster Dishong, is in the front row left, with a catcher’s mask on his knee. I don’t know who the other fellows in the photo are. Perhaps someone out there would know.
Harry Webster was 19 years old when the photo was taken and loved baseball all his life. He served a time on the City Recreation Commission and there was an article in the August 17, 1910 issue of the Johnstown Tribune honoring he and seven other gentlemen for their contributions to youth baseball in Johnstown.
Harry Webster died in April 1956 and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan.
