So interesting! What a great find! I hale from the Akers - my grandmother was an Akers, married a Karcher. She was named for Rose Akers, the Rose of Rose Street in the 8th Ward. Now our family uses Rose often for a middle name to honor her, and for a link to the long ago Rose she was named for. I am looking forward to reading all through your blog. I miss Johnstown so much. I haven't lived there since I was a baby, but spend a lot of my childhood in the 8th ward, running all over to Martellas and everywhere else with all my Karcher and Foster cousins.
